What Happens Before Guests Arrive? A Behind-the-Scenes Look at Live Event Announcing.

When guests arrive at an event, everything is supposed to look effortless.

The music is playing, the lights are on, the screens are working and then you hear that familiar voice:

“Ladies and gentlemen, please take your seats…”

But there’s actually quite a bit that happens before that first announcement.

As a live event announcer and Voice of God (VOG), I’ll usually be checking the running order, going through the script, making sure I’ve got everyone’s name and pronunciation right, and getting familiar with how the show is going to run.

But then, of course, the script changes!

Because if you work in events, you’ll know there’s no such thing as a final script!

I work closely with the production team, listening for cues and staying ready for those last-minute changes. A speaker might be late, the running order might move or something backstage might need a little more time.

That’s live events.

My job is to adapt without the audience ever knowing something has changed and that’s what I love about live event announcing.

It’s not just about having a good voice. It’s about timing, confidence, listening, reacting and knowing when to speak and when not to.The audience should simply feel that everything is running smoothly.

Even when there’s a LOT going on behind the scenes.
